If you want to change your name on Twitter, you will have to follow some simple steps. This article will detail how to change your display name and username. These are two separate names that appear in different places on your profile page.

  1. Log in

The first thing you need to do is to sign into Twitter as you normally would with your username and password. You will be able to do the same using the Twitter app on your smartphone or tablet device.

  1. Go to Settings

Next you will need to navigate to Settings. Click the gear icon or your profile image. If you do not have a profile image, just choose Settings and then Privacy. The Account tab should already be open. If it is not, you can select Account in the main menu.

Simply type in the username you want to use in the provided field. It can be up to 15 characters long. If the username you have selected is already in use, you will see a message telling you this appear next to the box. You will have to choose a username that nobody else on Twitter has.   • Click Save Changes to finish up.

If you have a verified account, changing your username or display name will cause you to lose the check mark that you have earned.
