A lot of computer users ask us why they need to know their printers’ IP addresses.
Well, the reason is simple, you need the IP address of your printer because it allows you to connect your printer to the network.
The IP address is also important when it comes to troubleshooting any issues. In simple words, an IP address is just like the address of your street where you live.
So, without an IP address, you cannot send any commands or print jobs to the printer. Without further ado, let us tell you how to find your printer IP address. Read on!
How to find the Printer IP address from your router?
If you are using PC or Mac, it is easy to find the IP address of your printer from simply accessing your router.
First, you need to type the local IP address of your router into the address bar of your browser. You can use Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
After you have typed or entered the IP address, the next step is to enter the username and password. You have a list of devices along with their IP addresses.
So, you can find the printer and the IP address in the list of connected devices to the network.
Remember, the information you find depends on the router configuration page. You need to look for terms such as network topology, connected device list, or network map.
How to find the Printer IP address on a Mac?
If you are using Mac instead of Microsoft Windows, then you can find the IP address of your printer easily but in a different way. There are two ways to find the printer IP address on the Mac.
First, you need to go to System Preferences and find it there. Likewise, you can it online via the “Common UNIX Printing System,” which is an open-source printing system for UNIX and Apple devices.
To find the IP address of your printer from the System Preferences, you need to go there and click on the Apple logo located in the top-left corner of the screen. Once clicked, you need to choose “System Preferences.”
Then, click on the “Printers and Scanners” and then choose a printer from the list presented on the left column. In case you have multiple printers in the network, you will see them in a list on the right side of the menu. You will find the IP address of the printer here.
Using the Common UNIX Printing System
You can also find the IP address of the printer using the Common UNIX Printing System or CUPS. This is easy as you just need to go to the Applications folder and then open utilities.
The next step is to open the terminal. Here, you need to type “cupsctl WebInterface = yes” and once you have done, it will enable the CUPS web interface.
Now, open Safari that is a web browser in UNIX or Apple operating system and type “localhost: 631/printers” into the address bar. You will see the IP address of the printer.
We think the first method is easy to find the IP address of the printer. So, instead of using the CUPS method, we recommend finding the printer’s IP address from the “System Preferences.”

If you have failed to find the IP address of the printer using the Control Panel, you can do this from the Command Prompt.
Simply type CMD in the search box. You can find the search box near the Start Menu on Windows.
Once you have opened the Command Prompt, you need to type “ipconfig” in the line and press enter. Next, find the IPv4 address.
Now, type “ping” in the new command line, give one space on your keyboard, and then type your IPv4 address. Press enter.
This will give you results. So, here, again, you need to type “arp –a” and then press enter on your keyboard. All static and dynamic connections using your IPv4 address will load.
A printer’s IP address is important for configuring your network and allowing or prohibiting users from accessing the Printer over the network. Using the above methods, you can find the Printer IP address on both Mac and Windows.
