How to Take Chantix

After you start taking CHANTIX, you can smoke up until your quit date, which depends on the quit approach you choose. There are 3 approaches to using CHANTIX to help you quit. When taking CHANTIX, you can choose a quit date that is after a week or up to a month after your start date.

Chantix success rates

Chantix has been shown to be approximately three times as effective as placebo at both three months and 1 year. According to the manufacturer’s website, www.chantix.com, studies have shown that at 3 months, 44% of those using Chantix were able to quit smoking.

When taking CHANTIX, you can choose a quit date that is after a week or up to a month after your start date. Or, if you’re sure you’re not willing or able to quit that abruptly, you can start CHANTIX and then cut your smoking in half each month with the goal of quitting at the end of 12 weeks (3 months), or sooner.

Does Chantix Cause Weight Gain? Unfortunately, many people who quit smoking do gain weight, regardless of the method they use to quit smoking. Weight gain rates are similar for people who quit cold turkey, use Chantix, or use nicotine replacement therapy. The average weight gain is about 10 pounds.

Wellbutrin (bupropion) is an antidepressant used for the management of major depression and seasonal affective disorder and Chantix (varenicline) is used for cessation of smoking. The Zyban brand of bupropion is used similarly to Chantix to help people stop smoking by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects.

CHANTIX DOSING

Take 1 white pill (0.5 mg) in the morning and 1 in the evening. Take 1 blue pill (1 mg) in the morning and 1 in the evening.

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms usually peak within the first 3 days of quitting, and last for about 2 weeks. If you make it through those first weeks, it gets a little easier. What helps? You should start to make plans before you quit.

There are more severe side effects that people have experienced when taking Chantix. These include: Changes in behavior or thinking. Aggression or agitation.

In clinical trials of Chantix, the medicine was found to reduce the urge to smoke, reduce withdrawal symptoms, and help patients maintain abstinence. One study compared Chantix to Zyban to placebo. The study found that both drugs were better than placebo, and concluded that Chantix was more effective than Zyban.

A chemical called dopamine is released, making you feel good. Then your dopamine levels drop. This makes you want another cigarette. CHANTIX attaches to nicotine receptors in the brain, so that nicotine can’t.

There have been reports of depression, mania, psychosis, hallucinations, paranoia, delusions, homicidal ideation, aggression, hostility, anxiety, and panic, as well as suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, and completed suicide in patients attempting to quit smoking while taking CHANTIX [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS].
