1. Change Admin Password On Mac Using The Current Password

  • From your desktop screen, navigate to the menu bar located in the upper-left corner and click on the Apple icon to open the Apple menu.
  • Under the Apple menu, click on the “System Preferences,” which is the second option in the list of menu. Alternatively, you can access the “System Preference” menu by clicking on the gear-like icon.
  • In the fourth raw of options, locate the “Users & Groups” and click on it to open to find the change password option.
  • Next to your profile image and username, click on “Change Password” option.
  • Enter the password you’re currently using in the “Old Password” box to be able to choose a new password.
  • Type your new password in the “New Password” box and then enter the same password in the box below labeled “Verify.” It’s important to note that you can only proceed to the next step if the new password matches the one in the “Verify” box.
  • Add a password hint. Even though it’s optional, it can be handy when you can remember the correct password. So, click in the box to add a password hint. When done with that, click on the blue “Change Password” button found in the lower right corner of the screen, and your password will change.

  • After the password reset, create a new password.
  • Navigate to the Apple and click on the ‘Log Out Admin‘ to log out of the admin user account and login to your User Account with the new password.

  • Restart your Mac computer when holding “Command + R” keys altogether and release the keys when the Apple logo appears on your screen.
  • Choose on “Utilities” and then click on the “Terminals” option to open the terminal window.
  • Next, type “reset password” and then click on the “Return option.” By doing that, the “Reset Password” screen will open.
  • Choose the “I forgot my password” option and then enter the password for the Apple ID account password.
  • Apple will send a password reset code to another device registered by the same ID. If you do not have another device, choose to receive the code as a text message in your phone.  Once you receive the code, enter it in the required field.
  • Choose a new password and add a password hint to help you remember your password easily whey you forget it.
  • Restart the Mac, and you will have your password changed to a new one.
  1. Change Password on Mac Using Apple ID

  • When you’ve entered an incorrect password three consecutive times, a password will appear displaying a password hint. If you do not have one set, click on the right-facing button next to “…reset it using your Apple ID.
  • Key-in your current Apple ID and password to and hit on the “Reset Password” button and then click on the “Oka” below the warning message that appears.
  • Type in your new password and a password hint if you’d wish to have one and then click on the “Reset Password” button to change the password. After that, restart and use your new password to log in to your User account.

NOTE: For this method to work, you must have the box next to “Allow user to reset the password using Apple ID” checked. To check it, go to “System preferences” then click on the “Users & Groups.” After that, ensure the box is checked if you would want to use this method in the future.
