How to Connect Chromebook to Printer
Printing is the most used feature by anyone, and when it comes to using Chromebook and finding the content you want to print. Before anything, the most important step is to connect or add your printer in the Chromebook devices list. Until and unless you are unable to find the printer in the chrome device list, you cannot use it. So here are some steps to guide you through it.
-
Printer Connection Via the Home Wi-Fi Network or Work Network
The first way of connecting your printer to the Chromebook is via the Wi-Fi network, be it a home or work network. The guided step through for the procedure is as follows or you can find the same thing in Google Help.
- First, make sure your printer is turned on and connected to a suitable Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Google Chrome browser and on the top right-hand corner, you will find three dots. Select them and you will find a drop-down of options.
- Click settings and scroll down, you’ll find an option saying advanced, click that.
- Now you will find Google cloud print option, when you click it you will find manage devices, open it.
- Log in and add tour printer by finding it in nearby printer options.
-
Printer Connection through the Cloud Ready Printer
TO identify whether your printer is cloud-ready, check beneath the printer if you find a logo saying Google cloud ready then it is if it is not there then follow the manual and make it cloud ready. Then follow these steps.
- Make sure your printer is turned on and then go to the Google website adding a printer to the website message.
- There you will see an option on the left side of the page saying ‘add Google cloud printer’ click on it and pair your printer to it.
- Once you have done it you will get a link in the center of the result page, copy the link and open the same in the new tab.
- When you open it you will find the original page and now you can see your device flashing in cloud-ready printer’s column. In case the cloud printer doesn’t get recognized, refer to this support.
-
Printer Connection Via the USB
Another way to connect your Chromebook and printer is through the USB. All you need is to make a secure wired connection between the Chromebook and the Printer using your USB. Here are the steps.
- Insert the USB cable in the HDMI column of the Chromebook and connect the other end to the printer.
- Make sure the difference between the two devices is not much.
- Now command your data you want to print by Ctrl + P. This is the keyboard shortcut for print command.
- You can also use the mouse by clicking the right side and selecting the print option.
- Once you have given the command, accept the command by clicking print in the dialogue box and you print will be done.
-
Printer Connection Via Bluetooth
Bluetooth is one of the other ways to use the printer under Chromebook settings, but I must mention that it is certainly a time taking and a tedious process. Follow through the guide below or go to Google Support.
- Make sure the Bluetooth on Chromebook and on the printer is turned on.
- Now once you can see your printer flashing on the connecting window of Chromebook, click the option pair.
- You will now find a code, accept and identify the code which will lead to both of your devices connect successfully.
- The good connection establishment may take some time, so be patient and only then start giving printing commands or the whole process might lag and become slow.
-
Connection with a Printer Manually
Sometimes auto establishment of the connection might fail, when it comes to printer’s, in that case, you can go for the manually connecting steps. They are as follows
- First, make sure you have all the relevant information about your printer that will be the IP address and the queue, protocol.
- You can find all this selective information, beneath the printer. You can even find your model number there.
- Now once you know all this information, in the chrome window open settings and go to advanced settings.
- Click on the option ‘add printers’ and select add manually.
- Then fill in all the required information, and in result, your printer’s name will display and then you can select it and establish the suitable connection. Even after all these steps, if you fail to find your printer, go here.
TIPS
- When connecting your printer, make sure to select the dialogue box to connect automatically, this way every time you will open your Chromebook, after turning on the printer the connection will establish itself. This will save you from the effort of going through all the steps, again and again.
Under Bluetooth connections make sure to turn off your printer’s Bluetooth before and after the connection, it will attract more devices and will make your connection weak to the Chromebook.
