Requirements to Create a Paypal Account

  • A reliable email address.
  • You should have a valid credit with the same name as provided during the account creation.
  • Have a valid and active bank account in the 100 PayPal accredited countries.

With the above requirements met, you can follow the steps below to create your PayPal account.

Open your PayPal app or head to the PayPal homepage. If you’d prefer using the mobile app, visit the Apple App Store for iOS devices and Google Play Store for Android phones and tablets. Whether you’ve opted to use the app or website, the steps are much similar.

After that, tap on the “Sign up for Free” or “Sign Up”. There are two types of accounts that you can sign up for.  You can opt for a personal account and business account. If you choose to sign up for a business PayPal account, there are two options available for you to choose one.  You can select a Standard account free or Pro account charging a monthly fee of $30. The difference between the two business accounts is that your customers will have to be rooted to PayPal first before making payments. On the other hand, the Pro account allows you to customize the checkout processes.

Type the email address that you want to be associated with the PayPal account and provide a strong password that ensures that your financial information is secure. Be careful to provide a valid email as you will need it to verify your PayPal account.

Complete the form that appears with correct personal information such as official name, phone number, address, among other details required. You must provide this information to create an account.

Add your debit or credit card information (Optional). After providing your personal information, PayPal will prompt you to provide your debit or credit card information. If not ready to do that immediately, you can add it later. Instead, you can click on the “I’d rather link my bank first” option.

Link your PayPal to your bank account. If you’re anticipating to receive money through your PayPal account, then you should get the two accounts linking. If you don’t prefer linking your accounts, you can click on the “I’ll link my bank later” to by-pass the process.

Sign Up for a line of credit (Optional).  Before you get to your account summary page, PayPal will prompt you to apply for credit. This is optional, and you should read the terms keenly before hitting on the blue “Apply” button found at the lower part of the page.

Retrieve the confirmation email and click on the “Activate My Account” to confirm your email. You will not be able to receive money using the email address if it is not yet verified. At times, the confirmation message may end up in other folders instead of getting to the inbox folder. In such cases, check your Spam folder or under the Purchases label.  If you’re unable to locate the email, go back to the account summary page and click on the “Confirm email”. Doing that will prompt PayPal to send another confirmation email.

Get your bank account linked to PayPal. This process makes your transactions more convenient compared to using credit and debit cards. Also, using linked accounts makes sending and receiving money on PayPal less expensive than it could have been when using debit or credit cards. Below are the steps to help you link your bank account. On your account, summary page, locate the “Link a bank” and click on it to get started. If your bank appears on the list, enter your login information to get it linked. If the bank is not listed, use your account and routine numbers to get it linked. It will take a day or two for it to be confirmed. After that, PayPal will deposit some small amount of money less than $1 into your account. You should use the two digits value to verify that you’re the account owner.

Get your Debit or credit card linked to your PayPal account (Optional). To do that, tap on the “Link a card” found on your account summary page.  After that, enter your card number, the date it expires, and the security code. Having done that, your card will automatically get linked to your PayPal account. However, your name on the card should, and the legal name you provided during account creation should match your card name for the card to be linked instantly. Also, you can create a PayPal account without a credit card by linking your bank only.

TIP: You can use this method to link your gift card from MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
