Closing your account on eBay is more challenging than it is on other sites because of the auction-style format of purchases. You’ll want to follow these steps to have a successful experience.
- Contact eBay customer service about the reasons why you want to close your account. They do an excellent job of sorting out frustrating issues and might find an alternative solution for you.
- You can remove your automatic payment method and cancel your eBay selling tool subscriptions to leave your account active without charges. It won’t be a full deletion, but this step can limit your costs.
- If you follow the first two steps and are not satisfied with the results, then you will need to take the following actions to ensure that eBay deletes your account.
- Any outstanding fees that you owe must be paid.
- There cannot be any unresolved restrictions or suspensions.
- You cannot have any open bids remaining on an auction item.
- All outstanding payouts are processed or pending, depending on your eBay account status.
- Submit a request for cancellation through the website. You will then receive an email confirming the action.
- You can contact customer service to regain access to your account if you change your mind. Once the request is submitted, you are no longer able to buy or sell without creating a new profile.
TIP: It takes 30 days to close most eBay accounts. If you purchased anything in the prior month, then it will take 60 days to complete this process.
