Diamonds are majestic and beautiful objects. They look glamorous in real and on paper as well. The process of refining and making a diamond is really complicated and has lots of steps; similarly the process of drawing a diamond can be tricky as well. Keep reading for a step by step tutorial on how to draw a diamond.
What you’ll need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Color pencils (optional)
Steps on How to Draw a Diamond:
- First you will have to draw basic horizontal lines. This is a pretty easy step. Make sure that you start near the top of the page so there’s space to draw the rest of the diamond below. Draw a horizontal line. Next draw another horizontal line parallel to it. This will be drawn below the first and will be slightly longer.
- Secondly, connect both the lines with each from the ends. Make one line on corner and extend it downwards to the longer line. This new line you just made will be slanted. Next draw the same step on the other end. One done you will see that there is a shape resembling trapezoid.
- Thirdly, now it’s time to make the shape of a diamond. For this all you need to do is make two more line. Draw an inward slanted line on one end of the trapezoid and bring it the middle. Similarly, repeat the same step on the other end. As a result, you will have a cone like shape at the end of the trapezoid.
- Fourth comes the detailing. We will start by adding details in the top part of the diamond or the trapezoid. All you need to do is make two tiny cone insides the trapezoid. These cones will be made in the middle of trapezoid. This will give you the delicate cuts that are on a diamond.
- Additionally, we are going to add some details in the bottom of the diamond on the bigger cone. You have to extend the lines from the upper detailing. The two tiny cones you just made will have an edge of course. Extend two lines from each cone down to the bottom. As a result, you bigger cone will be divided in three different segments now.
- Now, going back to the upper portion of the diamond, we are adding more details. In addition to the previous steps, now draw a series of zigzag lines starting from one side of the trapezoid to the other. Make sure that the zigzag lines you make will be in horizontal direction. These zigzag lines will be overlapping the existing cones you made. This will give your diamond more facets and more details. Here the detailing is complete for the upper part of the diamond.
- Moving on, now the extending part. The zigzag lines you made in the upper half will have edges that touch the bottom of the trapezoid. Extend those lines till the lines of segments. As a result, your cone will be further divided in more segments.
- Lastly, now you have new facets in the bottom part of the diamond. The new facets you made will have an opening on the top. Extend lines from the opening of the facet and draw it till it hits the bottom of the diamond. Repeat the same step for the other two facets you will have in the cone. One done, you have a detailed drawing of a diamond. You can use color pencils, crayons. Additionally, you can use paints to color the diamond according to your preference. You can also just shade the edges of the diamond for a 3D look.
In conclusion, this will give you a side glance drawing of a diamond.

Can we make diamonds at home?
There are a few different methods, but the simplest is something called “chemical vapor distillation”. The process is pretty straightforward. Basically, microwaves are used to create a slurry of graphite plasma which, when rapidly cooled form a crystal structure.
Can you grow diamonds at home?
The gas mixture is heated to very high temperatures in the microwave to produce a plasma ball, and inside this, the gas breaks down and the carbon atoms crystallise and accumulate on the diamond seed, causing it to grow.
What color do we expect diamonds to be?
Diamonds occur in a variety of colors—steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black. Colored diamonds contain interstitial impurities or structural defects that cause the coloration; pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless.
What is the rarest diamond color?
In diamonds, rarity equals value. With diamonds in the normal range, value is based on the absence of color, because colorless diamonds are the rarest. With fancy color diamonds—the ones outside the normal color range—the rarest and most valuable colors are saturated pinks, blues, and greens.
What is 12 13 clarity in a diamond?
The SI3 grade is meant to help differentiate the better I1 diamonds from other diamonds with slightly more inclusions (i.e. the worse I1 diamonds). The grade was created by EGL lab in the 1990’s. On the EGL scale, SI3 Clarity sits between the I1 and SI2 grades.
Are black diamonds rare?
Although most black diamonds on the market today are either superheated or irradiated to an almost black color, natural black diamonds do exist, though they are extremely rare. Carbonados, sometimes called “black diamonds,” are a distinct and unusual polycrystalline material.
Are black diamonds worth money?
Treated or enhanced black diamonds are extremely cheap. However, when it comes to GIA certified natural black diamonds, the price can easily be $1,500-$3,000 per carat for diamonds weighing 1.00 – 3.00 carats. Meaning that a 1 carat natural black diamond ring would cost approximately $2,500 – $3,000.
Which Diamond is best?
When it comes to choosing clarity, you will get the best value by picking a stone graded VS2 or SI1. Higher-clarity diamonds are cleaner, but this is visible under magnification. To the naked eye, a VS2 diamond, for example, looks as clean as one of a higher clarity grade.
How much is a 1 carat diamond?
How Much Does 1 Carat Diamond Cost? In general, a 1 carat diamond costs between $1,800 and $12,000. The cost depends on factors such as the Cut quality, Clarity, Color and Shape of the diamond. Cut quality is the aspect that most greatly impacts a 1 carat diamond’s price and its beauty.
How can you tell that a diamond is real?
Lay the stone onto the dot with the flat side down. Through the pointed end of the diamond, look down onto the paper. If you see a circular reflection inside the gemstone, the stone is fake. If you cannot see the dot or a reflection in the stone, then the diamond is real.
What Diamond holds its value?
Since a round diamond is thought to hold the most value when compared to the other shapes, it will almost always be given a higher price than any other shape with similar clarity, color, and carat weight.
