Finding a Book in the Library
1. Start by looking for a computer in the library then access the library’s homepage.
2. On the computer, move to the search option for articles, books, newspapers, magazines, and editorials.
3. With that, perform a title search. You can do this only if you know the title of the book you are searching for.
4. On the computer search bar, type the book’s title. Make sure you don’t start with the’s or a’s while typing the name of the book.
- Also, if you can’t remember the book’s title, you can search by the author. Remember, authors are always listed by their last names. So you can only type the last name or the full name. Doing this will list all books written by the author in that library.
- If you can’t remember either the book’s title nor the author, you can narrow down to the subject search. Here, you’ll only use the keyword.
5. Immediately you get the book’s title on the computer; click on it. Then you will be redirected to a new page that features detailed information concerning your book. This includes the book’s status and the position in which it’s located. Use your university Identification Number to access this information.
6. Jot down the location of the book, the status, and its call number. This information will help you physically locate the book on the library’s shelves.
- Also, the information will tell you whether the book is available in the library or not.
7. After you’ve confirmed that the book is available, use the call number guide to help you locate the library wing under which the book is located.
- You can use call numbers on the library’s main desk or guides around the computers.
8. Lastly, check on the library’s map at the main desk.
A map is essential as it gives you an outline of how you can get to the library’s wings.
If you don’t understand how to read a library’s map, you can seek help from the staff. They are always available at the library’s main entrance.
