How to Get Coconut Oil out of Hair

Coconut oil is an excellent natural hair oil used for removing dandruff, strengthening the hair shaft, and bringing a healthy shine to your hair. However, since it’s oily and thick, it can be hard to wash it out with just shampoo and water.
The good news is, there are numerous ways in which you can use to get rid of coconut oil from your hair. You can use dry hair solutions like dry hair shampoo, baby shampoo, or cornstarch. Alternatively, leave-in treatments like lemon juice, baking soda, and egg wash
Follow these hacks at least twice a week then see the best outcome out of it.
- Use A Dry Shampoo
This is the best way to remove the coconut oil from your hair as it removes the coconut oil from your hair quickly. Dry shampoo is great when you want to refresh your hair as it does this through sucking up all the coconut oil.
However, to properly use a shampoo, make sure that your hair is properly dried before sprinkling it. Begin with a small quantity then add more often as required. Coconut oil gets stuck on the hair roots, and that’s where you need to lie your focus on.
Never add more than one teaspoon of shampoo, as this can be harmful to your head by drying your scalp. Once you are through with applying shampoo, make sure you repeatedly comb your hair to blend the powder properly on your hair.
- Use Vinegar
Vinegar is a natural astringent, and that’s why it removes coconut oil from your hair quickly. Using vinegar is easier said than done. Begin by adding three spoons of vinegar in a dish, then apply it on the hair. After that, carefully massage your hair for the vinegar to reach the scalp then give it time to sit. After that, wash the coconut oil using warm water

A baking soda paste can also remove coconut oil from your hair. For a perfect outcome, start by mixing two tablespoons of baking soda with water to create a thick paste. Then apply the paste on the scalp and roots while your hair is still dry.
As you do this, make sure you concentrate on the oiliest parts such as the head crown. Immediately you’ve covered the oily parts, wash out the paste using warm water. Doing this must wash out your hair quickly and take away the coconut oil.

However, to egg wash your hair, crash three eggs in a dish, then add approximately 300ml of water to create an egg wash. After that, apply the mixture on your hair then give it time for about 10 minutes. Then rinse your hair with warm water.
Once you finish rinsing your hair, the coconut oil should disappear.
Never use boiling water to rinse your hair and get the egg out as the heat might end up cooking the eggs in your hair. Make sure the water is lukewarm.
- Use Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is acidic, and this helps it break down the fat molecules found in coconut oil. Begin by squashing the two fresh lemon juice in a cup. After that, add 240 ml of water then mix thoroughly.
Then pour the mixture on your hair as you massage it gently to make sure that the lemon juice gets on the scalp. After staying for some time, wash your hair with clean, warm water, and the coconut oil will get out with water.
If you want to soften your hair, you can add some honey to the mixture.
- Use Aloe Vera And Shampoo
For this method to work, add one teaspoonful of gel to shampoo then rub the mixture on your scalp and hair. After that, rinse it then allow it to sit for around 20 minutes. The coconut oil will be wiped out.
- Rosemary And Mint
Mint and rosemary have features that make them proper natural rinsing agents. They have essential oils and organic compounds that help in cleaning the hair from coconut oil. Furthermore, rosemary and mint improve hair growth as well.
However, to get rid of too much coconut oil, take one spoonful of rosemary and mint then mix it with warm water. You can add some lemon extract if you want. After that, apply the mixture on your hair then allow it to sit for approximately 10 minutes. Finally, rinse your hair.
