I may be wrong, but I’m fairly certain that GRRM said that he chose Arya’s name because he wanted it to sound sharp, like a knife, which is why in the correct pronunciation it should only be two syllables rather than three: her name is supposed to be pronounced “Ar-ya” or “Ah-ya”, but not “Ar-ee-a”.
