How to Send Money on PayPal

Launch your PayPal App on your phone or tablet. The app icon is usually located on the home screen. At times, you can find it hidden in the app drawer for the case of Android. If you haven’t downloaded the app, head to https://www.paypal.com/mobile, and tap on the “Get the PayPal app” and follow the on-screen guide to download the app. If you’d not wish to download the app, you can navigate to https://m.paypal.com on your web browser.

Sign in to your PayPal account using your password or Touch ID to continue. If it’s your first time to PayPal, you should add a payment method before you can start sending and receiving money.

Tap on the blue “Send” button located in the lower-left corner of the PayPal. If you’ve never used PayPal to send money before, navigate to the lower part of the screen and tap on the “Let’s get started!” when prompted.

Import your contacts by following the on-screen guide. This allows you to select a contact and send money effortlessly. To import your contacts, tap on the “Access Contacts” and proceed as prompted to import your contacts.  If you don’t prefer using the contacts, tap on the “Not now” option.

Enter or select a contact or contact.  If the person you want to send money is in your contacts, scroll down to choose the number or email address. If not, enter their payment address such as phone or email in the provided field on the upper part of the screen and tap on the create payment button. Check to ensure that the number or contact you’re sending money isn’t the wrong number to avoid sending the money to the wrong person. If you’re sending the money to a recipient in another country, hit on “Send to friends and family abroad” and follow the on-screen guide to send. 

Using the on-screen keypad, key-in the correct amount and tap on the dropdown to add appropriate currency if need be.

Find the blue “Next” button located on the lower part of the screen and tap on it. 

Select the appropriate payment type. Choose “Friends and Family” when you want to send money to someone you know, or choose “Goods and services” when buying something. The fee charged will depend on the type of payment. Therefore, personal payments are free while buying goods and services will cost you a small fee for purchasing protection.

Choose your payment method you’d like to use and tap on the “Next.” You can send money for free using your PayPal balance or using your PayPal linked bank account. However, a small fee will be deducted in the case of debit and credit card. If your PayPal balance is lesser than the Payment amount, the deficit will be sourced from your PayPal default account.  

Ensure everything is correct and tap on the “Send now” button. You can also add a note to the payment. If your recipient doesn’t have a PayPal account, the person will get a prompt to create one to withdraw the money.

Launch your web browser and head to https://www.paypal.com

Click on the “Log In” button positioned close to the upper right corner.

Log in to your PayPal account using a username and password. You can do that by typing your Username in the space provided, followed by a correct password in the text field, and then tapping on the “Log In” button. If you do not have a PayPal account, tap on the “Sign Up” button and follow the on-screen.

Next, click on the “Send & Request” positioned at the top of the page.

Choose the payment option that you’d like to use. You can choose “Pay for goods and services,” “Send to friends and family in the US,” “Send to friends and family internationally” if you’d wish to send money abroad from PayPal.

Type in the phone number, or email address and hit on the “Next” button. If you’ve ever sent money to the address before, click in the field and scroll down the list that displays all the addresses you’ve sent money before. Click on the address from the list.

Type the amount you’d wish to transfer and then tap on the “Continue.” Check if your default currency is correct and adjust by choosing the correct currency. You can also type a note to the recipient in the “Add note” should there be a need.

Review the payment details and make changes where necessary. If the payment method indicated is not the one you’d wish to use, click on the “Change Payment Method” and then enter an alternative. After that, click on the “Next” to confirm the changes. Also, if you have insufficient balance, PayPal will automatically deduct the deficit from your default PayPal bank account.

Finally, hit on the “ Send Payments Now.” This will send a notification of payment to your recipient almost immediately. If the recipient doesn’t have a PayPal account, he/she will get a prompt to create one to withdraw the funds.

In your PayPal account, select “Send Money.”

Select the “Personal” tab.

After that, select on the “Gift” or “Family and friends.” When through with that, you will be able to send money for free from your balance or the default bank account. However, you will still pay some little money if you use a debit or credit card. 

Tell your recipient to send you an invoice. The recipient can send you either a detailed invoice or a note requesting for payment. Interestingly, the email will come with a “Pay now” button.

Next, click on the “Pay now” button on the received email. If you don’t see the email in your inbox, try finding it from the Spam or trash folder.

Choose how you want to pay. After clicking on the Pay Now button, you will be prompted to open your PayPal account and make payments. If you don’t prefer that, you can select a credit or debit card that you want to use in making payments.  However, you should understand that you will be charged more when using a card for making payment as compared to a bank account and PayPal balance.

Review the payment details and click on the “Confirm” button. Doing so prompts PayPal to process the payment. You should receive a receipt for the payment.

Locate the “Send & Request” option found at the top of the page.

Select “Pay for goods or services” or “Send money to friends or family.”

Enter your recipient’s email or mobile and click on the “Next” option.

Review your payment details.

After that, click on the “Change Payment Method” and then select the “PayPal Credit” as the new payment method. If you wish, you can add a note to the payment.

Click on the “Send Money Now” button, and you’re the transaction appears in your PayPal Credit. And that’s much about it.
