Shoes are a very important part of your dressing style. They may one thing that’s viewed in the end, but a good pair of shoes can make a huge difference. One cannot repeatedly go out and get new pairs of shoes, so it is important to know how to keep them clean. You can also not avoid making them dirty because that is bound to happen. Here are some basic tips on how to wash your shoes.
Always remember that these methods vary from one material to another but for basic sneakers, you should the following things:
Hand Wash
First and foremost, before opting for expensive washing soaps and detergents, go for hand washing. This is often suggested as the first step for dirty shoes because it is very basic and easy. It is also very convenient. This way you can figure out whether the stains are sturdy enough for a different wash type.
Simply, take a container big enough to hold your shoes. Fill it with lukewarm or warm water and add some laundry detergent in it. Mix it well. Soak your shoes in it and leave them be for a while. Once they’ve been in the mixture long enough the stains will start to weaken. You can also use an old toothbrush to gently but firmly scrub at the stains. Last step is to air dry them once they are clean.
Machine Wash
If you think the stains are stubborn and won’t be easily cleaned with hand washing, then go for washing them in the machine. First add water in the machine with some detergent. Next, take out the laces and the insoles from the shoes. Next, add some towels in the machine so your shoes don’t make a racket while they are being cleaned. Take them out once a turn is completed and inspect it. You can either opt for another turn or if they are clean enough then air dry them.
Hand wash the laces and the insoles separately.
Vinegar and Water
Thirdly, you can also go for the vinegar solution. It won’t take up a lot of effort as all you need is vinegar, this method is great for leather shoes. Take water and vinegar in equal quantities and mix them in a bowl. Use a cloth, dip it in the solution and rub your shoes gently where there is dirt. Once they are dry, take another cloth and rub the shoes again for a shiny look.
Baking Soda
Lastly, you can also use baking soda. This is a very versatile tip. the best part is that you can use it on different materials. All you need is baking soda, some water and detergent but that’s optional. Take all the three ingredients and make a paste. Use a toothbrush to apply the paste on the dirty spots. Rub it on the stains in circular motion to weaken them. Leave your shoes coated with the mixture for a while.
Once the mixture is dry, you can either brush it off with a spare tooth brush or clean it with a damp piece of cloth.
