You will need to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network to begin the backup process.

If your device supports iOS 11.4 and you own multiple Apple products, then you can sync your messages to each one using iCloud instead.
- Update to iOS 11.4 if you have not already. You can access this through the Settings menu, then click or tap on General, and then choose “Software Update.”
- Enable two-factor authentication from “Password and Security.”
- Then choose to allow syncing in iCloud by going through the “iCloud” menu option, and then toggling the switch next to “Messages.”
TIP: Once you activate the syncing process, your messages with backup automatically. Unless you are using an older device that doesn’t support iOS 11.4, you will want to choose Option #2 over Option #1 for the best results.
