A Mini Christmas Tree Out of Paper
If you want to make a paper Christmas tree then the first thing would be to follow a proper tutorial online. These days there are several YouTube videos that describe in detailed steps. And, some even use origami as their motivation.
- Marking and cutting papers is an important step here. You will always need glue, scissors, green color construction paper, some colorful glitters and stuff.
- Cutting with the use of drawings and shapes is an important step too. For example, you want your tree to be like a cone or with zig-zag edges like a real tree.
- Glitter, stickers and small decorative balls, stars and all are a great way to go about decorating your tree after you have made them. This adds to the list of items you have to buy in advance too.
- If you are making them small and mini trees, you can make a whole bunch of them and hang them around your house too.
A Mini Christmas Tree Out of Pipe Cleaners
If you want to make some mini trees using pipe cleaners, then you will also need few other things like foam paper, glitter, colorful beads, ribbons and a good YouTube video that shows how to make it too.
- We start here with a simple example, that uses a circular piece of glittering foam paper and cut it into halves or semi-circles.
- As you understand, we are going to roll it inwards to make it like a cone and form the actual body of the tree, that is, the branches and all, which is in a cone shape, like we know.
- Now, you just can make a bunch of them. Just remember that affix the cone by gluing the sides after you have rolled, and trimming anything if left.
- Once you have made a few of them, the body of the tree, it is time to decorate them with glittering pipe cleaners.
- You can take a long pipe cleaner and secure it with glue at the top of the cone, and make a spiral around the cone coming from top to down. Finally, use glue to fix it at the end, and trim any excess if left. The pipe cleaner has the metal portion that can be used to fix it too.
- Now, the decoration with ribbons, beads, and glitter, which you can spread and stick randomly around the cone on the pipe cleaner.
A Mini Christmas Tree Skirt
As it turns out after you have done decorating the Christmas tree completely, you can make your own custom-made skirt to decorate the bottom part of the tree. It makes a nice finishing touch to the tree after all.
- For this, you will need more than just a small paper and glue. For example, you can use paper, but you can also use fabric and sewing if you want to.
- If you are making a skirt for DIY mini Christmas trees that we made above, then we can use paper as well.
- You can make a circular piece of paper (or fabric) of any color you like and cut it from one side to put it below the tree’s trunk.
- Usually, these skirts of Christmas trees are for big trees and can use up to 1.5 yards of fabric, but we keep it small for small decorative trees only.
- You can use glitter and sparkles from leftover above mini trees and stick them on the skirt as well. The skirt looks similar to any skirt but is put on the lower end of the tree.
A Mini Christmas Tree Topper
The Christmas tree toppers are all the attraction when you have completed your tree. And, it can be as simple as the pipe cleaner with a bead like in Step 1, or a nice glittering 3D cardboard star that looks really awesome.
- First, you can go to Pinterest, and take a look at different ideas that people have used to make toppers for their Christmas tree. Most of them are always custom and handmade.
- For a simple 3D cardboard start like above, you can take cardboard marked as stars from stores and just fold them nicely to give that appearance. You can find kits at your holiday retail stores.
- You can also start from scratch using construction paper, craft glue, glitter paint or acrylic paint to make them as shiny as possible. Guess what is the most used color? It is gold.
- Once you have cut and made your stars, take a pair of them and then stick them at the edges, making a bulge outwards on both with a hollow in the middle. This gives them that 3D shape.
- Then, you can also use directly golden and silver glitter papers and cut them out in various forms, like circles, stars and more and make origami flowers if you like, which is another cool idea to go with.
- A Mini Christmas Tree Star
Now, coming to an actual example where the topper is a star. Remember that, toppers can be of any shape and anything from a simple 3D star to spheres with crystals balls and more. The idea is to make them as attractive as possible.
- To make a mini Christmas tree star, we have to make mini stars too. Unless they are as small as one foot in height, you can buy them directly.
- If you want to make stars for a medium sized tree, then you can make your own mini tree star using kits. But, we have already mentioned some items in ‘Step 1’, which are used here as well.
- Starting with a square piece of construction cardboard, and do a paper folding to make a star-shaped cut-out. You can find tips online on how to fold a paper into a star.
- Then, you need glittering paint or acrylic paint as mentioned above and can paint on the start thoroughly. Use them to conceal the edges too nicely.
