How to age paper with coffee?

Aging paper with coffee is the first method that we are going to discuss here. The steps are:

Step 1:

First, you need to have 3 cups of boiling water. In that water, you need to add 1 cup of ground coffee. Adding a cup of coffee will give the water a darker color. Next, you need to make the mixture by thoroughly stirring the ground coffee in the water. Continue the stirring for at least 5 minutes. Make sure the ground coffee is completely mixed in hot water.

Step 2:

Use a mesh strainer to strain the coffee mixture. You need to discard the ground coffee. If there are any residues, then you need to remove them too. A small amount of coffee grounds is okay to add some dark spots to the paper that you want to age.

Step 3:

Take a shallow pan, bowl, or dish and pour the strained coffee in it. Once you have done this, you need to add paper in the bowl or pan so that it can soak up the coffee. Make sure the paper is completely dipped in the coffee mixture.

Step 4:

After leaving the paper in the bowl or pan for at least 15-20 minutes, the next step is to let take the paper carefully. Make sure you don’t tear it. Let is dry. You can hang the paper to dear with clothespins.

Don’t dip the paper in the bowl or paper more than 20 minutes because doing so will give it an even darker color. Of course, you want to age the paper but don’t want it to become darker than the required – otherwise, the paper aged paper will look fake.

How to age paper with tea?

Aging paper with tea is probably the best and effective method to make the paper look more realistically aged. Here are the steps to age paper with tea. Continue reading!

Step 1:

It is no surprise to tell you that when you age the paper with tea, you need to make some tea. So, you need to brew tea on the stovetop. You can use a small pan with water and then put 8-10 tea bags. The number of tea bags depends on the number of papers that you want to age. Let the water boil and then put the tea bags in it.

Step 2:

Take a tea bag and use it all over the paper that you want to age. You can also use a tea bag for smearing tea on all parts of the paper. The purpose is to completely cover every inch of the paper. If you have any worries about the lines, then don’t worry because you can get rid of them later. The paper will get wet and we must let you know that this is completely normal and part of the procedure.

Step 3:

Once you have poured the liquid from the tea bags or the pan using the spray bottle, you need to take a few paper towels, which you will use to wipe off the excess tea or liquid from the paper.

Of course, we don’t want the paper to get darker than the required threshold because this won’t look realistic. This is not a problem for household members but if you are a student and want to create a craft project from the aged paper, then, we recommend you not to make it darker. Keep this mind!

Step 4:

Let the paper dip in the tea for some time or make sure you use the tea bags to sprinkle the tea on the paper. After you have done this step, the next move is to let the paper dry. Make sure, you let it dry naturally. It will take a few hours. In case you have not achieved the desired results after the paper has dried, you can apply the tea again to it and then leave it for a couple of more hours.


An aged paper or paper can be used for a wide range of purposes. It is a great household item that you can use to clean windows, place it between the utensils to keep them organized, and use them for packaging purposes.

So much so, there are several ways to age your paper and make it look like an old paper. For instance, you can also use lemon juice or darker stains to make it aged. Some people use cocoa powder mixture in water to age paper. However, we don’t recommend this.

It is because the cocoa powder mixture can destroy the quality of the paper. Also, it will make it completely darker or black. On the other hand, you have two best techniques – i.e. use the coffee mixture or tea to age the paper.

Lastly, we suggest you carry out the steps accurately and test a small piece of paper. Once you are satisfied, you can age the rest of the paper using any of the methods above.
