Drawing a book might be the easiest thing that you can draw.
It might seem like it would be difficult to draw a book but it is fairly easy to make.
All you need is your artsy side and a creative mind to draw a book also you do not need to worry as the steps that have been mentioned are not that difficult.
2 methods to draw a book easy
By following these simple steps you will be able to draw a book.
- White paper
- A table or a work station where you will be placing your materials
- A pen or pencil for drawing
- An eraser for erasing helping lines or any mistakes that might be made
- Some other material if you might end making a collage if you want to
- and some music
Let’s start the procedure of drawing a book with the help of easy to follow steps.
Step 1: Draw a cuboid
Start off by laying out all your material and essentials on the table where you will be working and press play on the playlist that you like to jam to so that it can be played in the background while you draw your book.
The first step is very simple all you need to do is to draw a rectangle slightly tilted in a vertical position. Roughly draw out the edges as well. The lines would later be erased so make sure that they are drawn roughly with gentle pressure.
Make sure the lines that are drawn are straight so it would be ideal to use a ruler or scale for help. The height and width of the cuboid should be equal.
The face of the cuboid would be much larger in comparison to its edges. The surface would also be equal to the face of the book. Make sure that these lines are lightly drawn so that they can be erased.
Step 2: The book cover
The next step to draw a book is to draw the book cover.
So in this step, we will be drawing the rough lines of what would turn out to be the book cover and the edges of the book sleeve. Start off by drawing lines along the edges of the book and along the sleeve.
At the end of one edge draw a curve to give the impression of the binding of a book. The top side of the book would not have any mo9re lines but the rest would have an inner lining.
In this step erase the helping lines that were drawn previously.
Step 3: The pages
In this step draw an impression of the pages of the book on one side of the edge.
You can either draw straight lines which w9oyuld give the impression of a book that has been read too many times or you can draw the pages in such a way which gives the impression of a new book that has been touched yet.
With the help of curves, the impression pages can be given while simultaneously defining the edges.
Step 4: The details and the book sleeve
In this step draw some lines to add more definitions to the book and draw more details by making smaller additions.
Indents here and there and defining the edges would make the book look more put together. Add little defining notes in the pages stacks as well as the book sleeve to make it look more realistic and cute.
Imagine what a book looks like and what details can be added and then just draw them. Simple strokes of pencil across the pages would give the impression of a thick book.
Step 5: The book cover page
The next step is to draw a cover page for your book. Have a rough idea of what you are looking for and what you want to draw. It is recommended to have a picture for reference saved.
Also, go for an easy to follow book cover that can be easily drawn and is not that complex unless you are an expert when it comes to drawing.
You can make it even more fun by printing some letters or the cover page and sticking it to the front of the book that you have drawn.
You can also make a collage of sorts to make it look artsier. The best thing is that you can have fun with the book cover and do whatever you want to do with it.
A book is probably the easiest thing that you can draw and these steps are so easy to follow. The most important thing is that you should have fun while drawing whatever it is that you want to draw.
That is why in the essentials required we have mentioned having some music playing in the background and make the entire experience therapeutic to draw a book.
If you want to add drawing a book into your list of drawing skills, here are some steps that you can follow.
- Gather the materials that you need for drawing
Start by gathering the supplies that you need for drawing a book. You can draw it on a sketchbook, paper or a bullet journal, depending on your preference.
Also need a lead pencil for sketching, an eraser and some drawing pens for finalizing your drawing. You can also use watercolors or coloring pens to color your book to give it more character.
- Draw the basic outline of your book
If you haven’t tried drawing a book before, it’s best to start with a rough construction outline, which is an “in perspective” 3-dimension rectangle that should have the same height, width and length.
You can also draw a slanted basic triangle to make the book a little more artistic. If you are drawing on paper, make sure to draw very light lines to avoid leaving any marks when you erase the outline.
If you’re just going for the basic book drawing, you can add the details to your outline by drawing a slight curve at the top and bottom of your spine.
To give the illusion of the back of your book, draw a line that is parallel to the front cover and add a few curved lines in between for a more detailed look.
Then, you can just add your title and a few additional details to complete the look of your book.
- Draw a book cover
If you prefer to be a little more intricate with your drawing, you can emphasize your book cover by drawing a horseshoe shape in an angle where you can then outline a slim rectangle for the spine.
Follow this with another rectangle for the book cover and you can then add more elements like the spine detail, some pages and the book title itself with some illustrations.
Finish the cover by erasing the construction outline and adding rounded corners to the front edges of the cover to give it more texture.
- Draw the details of your pages and joint
Inside the book cover, you can start drawing the shape of all your pages through light curves on the front corners that will serve as your “page stack.” You can then add the joint by drawing small indents towards the back end of the top and bottom of your cover.
Then, draw a line between these indents at the top to make it look like the entire space is indented. Once you’re finished with all your details, you can define them even more using your drawing pen and add colors using your watercolors or coloring pencils.
You can then erase the rest of your construction lines to finish your drawing.
- Draw a book in different perspectives
Now that you know how to draw a basic book, you can already explore different perspectives to make your book drawings more fun and dramatic.
- Draw an open book.
To start, draw a line that will serve as the center of your book and draw two rectangles on each side.
Make sure to keep your top and bottom line curved to really emphasize the effect of an open book. Then, draw larger rectangles behind the ones you already made.
They will serve as your front and back covers. Darken the edges to make the covers stand out from the inner pages and you can also add a bookmark for more details.
- Draw a book standing up.
Start by drawing a set of lines that will serve as the book spines. Fill out the top of the books with small curved lines and do the same for the bottom.
Then, add the details of the spines of your books and other elements that you like including illustrations, titles and lines.
- Draw a stack of books.
After deciding the number of books you want to stack, draw elongated U shapes from the bottom and work your way up depending on the number of books that you want. Include a slightly indented line for each U to define the pages of your book.
Once you have the outline covered, you can start working on the top book by drawing three lines, two of which are from the curve of the U and one from the top for the cover.
Then, you can draw the remaining spine lines to make your book look more detailed. Work on the other books until you reach the bottom.
To finish your drawing, draw the tops of the spines with a curved line and add a few details including the pages of the book to complete your finished product.
Whatever kind of book you want to draw, it’s very important to start with the basic book shape and work your way into more detailed book drawings.
You should also practice constantly to correct errors and experiment with different perspectives, textures and colors until you achieve the perfect book drawing that you’ve been wanting to achieve.
