To start streaming in squad follow the steps below.

  • To start squad streaming or accept invitation to take part in squad streaming, Find Squad Streaming widget in your dashboard.
  • Type the name of the channel you want to add to your squad.

Note: Make sure, all the channels which you need to add to squad must be live before. Also, you can add up to 3 channels and that 3 channels must be your teammates or that channels must follows you.

  • When all the 3 invited channels accept your invitation request for squad streaming, click on Start squad stream.
  • A banner will be placed on the streamer’s channel. This will help the viewers to watch this channel in squad mode.

Note: Squad streaming will ends only if all the 4 streamers will leave the streaming. If one streamer leaves the squad, the viewers will be still able to watch in squad mode.

If the leader of the squad streaming want to leave the squad, he/she must let the viewers to know that you are leaving the squad.

After the leader has left the squad, the first invited member in the squad becomes the leader automatically.

Control who can invite you in squad

By default settings, twitch allows to send invitation to friends list members, or teammates  or the channels that follow you. You can specify the members who can send you invitation and who cannot. To do so, head on towards your Channel Settings page.

How viewers subscribe and spend bits in squad stream

  • Twitch bits are virtual currency, which viewers can spend to get special features and ultimately, the streamers are supported by these bits. So, in squad stream, viewers can use bits to the channel whichever is in the primary slot.
  • They can also chat with it.
  • To subscribe any channel from the squad, hover over that channel’s avatar or over the video parition of that channel.

How to change channel in primary slot

Simply, click the video player of the channel which you want in primary slot. Upon clicking, it will swap with the channel already in the primary slot.

Note: Pre-rolls ads are the ads which plays before a streaming starts. Mid-rolls ads are those which plays during the streaming. So, during squad stream, viewers are still able to watch these pre-rolls and mid-rolls. Keep in mind, ads play only on the channel which is in the primary slot. Ads are played in full screen mode on mobile.

Tip: Extensions does not work for the viewers in squad mode. However, they work only in non squad mode.

Twitch recommends its squad streamers to use low latency settings and to use third party voice apps to communicate with each other. Taking these measure will improves stream quality and video as well as audio will synchronize accurately.

Past broadcast for squad stream

Unfortunately, past broadcast does not work for the squad stream. But, twitch has been thinking to expand the past broadcast feature in squad mode also. However, past broadcast feature will work for all the channels individually, who takes part in squad stream.

To ensure better quality and experience, the channel in the primary slot is displayed to the viewers in high video quality such as 720p and the other 3 channels in lower video quality such as 480p.
